The Boathouse Design Studio is based in a Grade II listed building right next to Teddington Lock Footbridge. Originally designed for building and maintaining boats, the space now offers a unique office experience for the companies who work here, with its natural light, stunning view over the Thames and its carefully restored and converted interiors.
Since the ground floor conversion was completed in 2015 we now offer desk space to rent to professionals from a range of creative industries, providing a co-working environment in which ideas, work and best practice can be shared – with the odd bit of friendly table tennis thrown in for good measure.
The owners, Matthew Allchurch (below, left) and Richard Broome (below, right) and their respective companies, MAA Architects and Outerspace Urban Design work from the first floor, which was converted in 2010.
We organise regular social events which bring people together such as sketching, photography and running clubs. Once a week one of the co-workers cooks lunch for us all – a daunting task – but taken on bravely and with some delicious results!
The Boathouse is a green place to work, with well-thought out cycling facilities. We also encourage a community-minded ethos. The Flying Cloud, a cafe run from a refurbished vintage Airstream caravan on the river terrace is open to the public throughout the summer providing excellent tea, coffee and cakes.Follow the Flying Cloud Cafe
The Boathouse has maintained its strong ties with the river. The Chandlery still operates today out of the Boathouse and many of the people working here volunteer for the Teddington RNLI as crew members.
